Since our semi-annual Satin Matte Foundation sale is going on now, let’s take a moment to talk about what to do if you think you have your foundation shade, but you’re not quite sure. Or maybe you have found the shade you love, but you notice that some days, the coverage isn’t what you want.

Yoga for the Larger Woman calendar
Back in May, I had the opportunity to work as the makeup artist on an amazing project. Joni Kabana, an award-winning visual artist and photojournalist, and the woman behind the camera on our Naturally Gorgeous model shoots, was going to be shooting a calendar for a local yoga studio, and needed makeup for the models. Being familiar with my work, and the way that Alima Pure photographs, Joni asked if I would come and help out. The project, she explained, was to spread the word about a series of classes at The Yoga Project, a studio in the Sellwood area of Portland, called “Yoga for The Larger Woman.”

Meet Naturally Gorgeous Adriana
This month’s Naturally Gorgeous, Adriana is one of those girls that appears to be lit from within. She glows with health and natural beauty. Small wonder, when she spends most of her free time outdoors. Called “Adri” for short, Adriana is the opposite of high maintenance in all areas save one – her hair. Adriana, like all of our Naturally Gorgeous models, is unretouched and photoshop free!

3 for $30 Eyeshadow Set: Vivid! for Brown Eyes
Our first 3 for $30 eyeshadow sets were such a big hit that we decided to go a little bit wild with the newer ones. So when we first asked Urmila to model our Vivid! for Brown Eyes eyeshadow set, she was agreeable. Then we told her the colors in the set. “Aegean??? I don’t think I can wear blue eyeshadow,” she said. Of course we told her she definitely could, and we would prove it. The results are here for the world to see!

Select Makeup Colors with Ease
Have you noticed that it is now just a little easier to shop and select makeup colors on the Alima Pure website? We have been adding little features and hints to make it simpler to find what you’re looking for, even if you aren’t always exactly sure what you’re looking for!
In our website make-over, we added a handy feature that allows you to sort all of our eye products and blush shades by color. Of course, we recognize that our idea of “pink” might not be exactly the same as your idea of “pink,” but keep in mind that we have listed them by the shade we are most likely to call a particular color. While Eden Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow could be called “green” or “gold,” it definitely could not be called “yellow,” so it will show up in a search for “green” colors. Continue reading
Alima Pure’s Foundation Selector
Having 61 shades of foundation to choose from, like most things in life, comes with both positives and negatives. On the plus side, we are certain that we can provide a superb foundation match for more women than any other cosmetics brand. On the negative side though, with 61 to choose from, it can be downright tricky to select your best shade.
We’ve definitely tried to be helpful. Rather than give our Satin Matte Foundations beautiful names, we settled on a shade range (Cool, Beige, Olive, etc.) and a depth number (0 for lightest, 9 for deepest), resulting in products like “Olive 3″ and “Cool 8″. We offer sample sizes so that you can pick some choices that might work for you and try them out before committing to a full-sized jar. And we have always had our “Ask the Artist” option, allowing customers to contact our makeup artists and answer a few questions to have the selections narrowed down for them. But we realize that these things don’t solve the problem for everyone. Maybe it seems somehow pesky to write to the artist. Maybe you’re unsure exactly what “cool” and “warm” mean with regards to your skin.

Runway Trend: Deep Blue Eyeshadow
Deep blue eyeshadow is huge runway trend this season and just so happen to be incredibly flattering on most eye colors. If you’re new to wearing blue, don’t fret; here are a few quick tips to get you started. But more importantly, be adventurous and have fun playing!
Brighten up! Line your upper and lower lash line with Nuit Luminious Shimmer Eyeliner or Nightingale Satin Matte Eyeliner, this will help whiten and brighten the eyes and fight off any redness.
Pop a deep shade like Navy Luminious Shimmer Eyeshadow or Smoke Luminious Shimmer Eyeshadow into the outer corner of your lower lid and blend out with a #37 Eye Blending Brush. This is a simple alternative to the traditional smokey eye. Try not to blend too high above the crease when using blues.
If you’re like most people and wear a neutral shadow much of the time, try something lighter like Azure Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow. With just a hint of Azure in the inner or center of your lower lid the center you can completely transform your look.
Color Crave: Amethyst Pearluster Eyeshadow
Ah, the power of purple and its ability to enhance your eye’s natural color and sparkle. That’s why this week we’re paying tribute to our powerfully pigmented and multidimensional Pearluster Eyeshadow in Amethyst.
Here are some little known facts about our Amethyst: it’s the birthstone of Alima Pure founder, Kate O’Brien; it’s Kate’s favorite Pearluster Eyeshadow color; and it was the third eyeshadow ever created here at Alima Pure.

AP: What do you do for fun?
LG: I like to go on adventures that have no true destination. When the weather is nice I like to be outdoors at all times, preferably near any body of water. I have the most fun when I am surrounded by the people I love; when that is the case I am happy doing anything.
