For the Perfect Brows

Alima Pure Staff Makeup trends picks for spring Eyebrows may well be the most often overlooked area of the face when it comes to applying makeup. Maybe you feel as if your brows are already heavy enough, or don’t love the natural shape. But what women who skip brow makeup may not realize is that your brows provide a frame that can draw attention to the eye, and can even make them look larger.

If you are unhappy with the shape of your brows, pay to have them professionally shaped. For maintenance, you can either visit a professional regularly, or tweeze strays on your own, keeping the shape created by the professional, and only returning for a reshape occasionally.

What we’re loving: moisturizers

A little while ago, we let you in on what cleansers were working well for the Alima Pure staff.  Now we’re ready to share our favorite moisturizing products with you.  Again, please keep in mind that what works for us may or may not work for you, and we haven’t tried everything on the market, by any means!  We just  have a few things we really like, and if your skin type is similar, you might like them as well.

Amanda says, “I have a hard time finding skin care products that are compatible with my skin, I have VERY sensitive skin, especially on my face and hands (contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis), but I panic (literally, I have anxiety about it) if I do not have moisturizer because I can’t stand the feeling of dry skin.”

First on Amanda’s list is Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Moisture Plus Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 15.  She says, “This moisturizer has a fresh energizing scent, nice and light feel (for an SPF lotion).  It does burn a little bit if I have a rash on my face, though.”

Yoga for the Larger Woman calendar

Yoga for the Larger Woman calendar Final Back in May, I had the opportunity to work as the makeup artist on an amazing project.  Joni Kabana, an award-winning visual artist and photojournalist, and the woman behind the camera on our Naturally Gorgeous model shoots, was going to be shooting a calendar for a local yoga studio, and needed makeup for the models.  Being familiar with my work, and the way that Alima Pure photographs, Joni asked if I would come and help out.  The project, she explained, was to spread the word about a series of classes at The Yoga Project, a studio in the Sellwood area of Portland, called “Yoga for The Larger Woman.”

Tone down sunburn with Color Balancing Powder

pistachio with brushThe sun came out in Portland this past weekend.  And it didn’t just come out, it came out with a vengeance, drying up the perma-puddles and sending sun-starved Portlanders in search of tank tops, shorts and pedicures.  Then came the aftermath — photos on Facebook, with the caption, “maybe it will turn into a tan,” and a run on aloe vera gel at the drugstore.

But until it does turn into a tan, consider toning down your sunburn with Pistachio!  Alima Pure’s Color Balancing Powder in Pistachio is perfect for toning down unwanted red, and although that usually refers to redness from rosacea or allergies, Pistachio is an equal-opportunity red-fighter; sunburn and windburn also fade away under this soft green powder.

Of course, having Pistachio in your collection doesn’t mean that you should skip the sunscreen…far from it!  But sometimes, no matter how hard you try to reapply, you end up with too much sun.  When you do, just buff on Pistachio with your #15 Flat Top Foundation Brush, #21 Buff Brush or #25 Foundation Brush, and follow with your regular foundation.  Or, if your sunburn is on your body, skip the foundation and just let Pistachio do all the work.  You’ll be amazed at how efficient it can be!
