Eyebrows may well be the most often overlooked area of the face when it comes to applying makeup. Maybe you feel as if your brows are already heavy enough, or don’t love the natural shape. But what women who skip brow makeup may not realize is that your brows provide a frame that can draw attention to the eye, and can even make them look larger.
If you are unhappy with the shape of your brows, pay to have them professionally shaped. For maintenance, you can either visit a professional regularly, or tweeze strays on your own, keeping the shape created by the professional, and only returning for a reshape occasionally. Continue reading →
Recently, we were contacted by Portland-area photographer Diana Sell with an interesting question. She wanted to do a photo shoot for her son’s Kindergarten class as an auction project, and needed a little help with the makeup. Now, normally we aren’t fans of kindergarteners wearing makeup, but Diana had found an on-line tutorial on how to do deer makeup. Since her son attends Deer Creek school, it seemed like a natural! But the tutorial showed all sorts of makeup that didn’t seem like the best things to put on the sensitive skin of young children, so Diana reached out for a little advice. Continue reading →
Awards Season continues, with the latest event the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards last weekend. These didn’t seem to draw as much attention, as the previously held Golden Globes did, with regards to fashion and beauty, but that’s a shame, because the SAG awards boasted some gorgeous looks After strolling through numerous slide shows of red carpet fashion, one look stuck out as our favorite makeup look from the weekend. Jaimie Alexander, co-star of Nurse Jackie, was absolutely stunning with her black-rimmed, greeny-gold smoky eye look. Did you know you could accomplish the same look with Alima Pure?
For movies and television, Awards Season begins sometime in November and wraps up in late February with the Academy Awards. During this window of time, it seems as if Alima Pure has been getting a little love from press and bloggers, so we thought we would take a quick look back at the awards and mentions that we have received in the latter part of 2012 and early 2013. With holidays, flash sales and facebook contests, we weren’t able to devote as much attention to some of these as we normally would, and so now we’d like to take a moment to show our appreciation for the recognition. Maybe we haven’t won as many awards as Anne Hathaway will this season, but we are still pretty proud of our products!
We had been thrilled to win several Organic Beauty Talk awards in 2011, and for 2012 they changed the format of the awards and gave the awards to brands, rather than for specific product categories. We were honored to be selected as the Best Natural Mineral Makeup Line, and even more so because the 2012 awards took into account reader’s opinions of the products! Continue reading →

December may just be the most difficult month to take care of yourself. Because we know most of our customers are spending the month thinking of (and doing things for) others, we want to give you a little treat. We have created a beautiful, limited edition shade of our popular Organic Nourishing Lipbalm…Quince! Now you may be wondering, “why did they make a yellow lip balm?” But Quince is not the color of the quince fruit, but the Quince flower. A delicious, bright red, with a slight hint of sparkle, Quince is brighter than Holly Berry and more red than Sweet Pea.
During December, we will be adding Quince to all orders that total $45 (before shipping is added). It won’t show up on your receipt, but the Alima elves that are packing your orders will be sure to add it just the same. The offer is only good while supplies last, and while we think we made enough to last he full month, you might want to order soon, just to be sure!
This little gift is just one of the ways that we want to remind you, Alima Pure loves our customers! We wish you the happiest of holiday seasons.
Happy Thanksgiving! We know that some of our customers are enjoying a triptophan-induced coma about now, but others of you are chomping at the bit, ready to get your holiday shopping cranked up into high gear. The great news for both camps is that our Black Friday offer begins Thursday evening, and carries through Cyber Monday, November 27. There’s plenty of time to take advantage of this fun offer! With any purchase of $45 or more placed through our website, you will receive a darling mini kabuki brush, and eyeshadow-sized jars of two limited edition Luminous Shimmer Blushes, Lily and Zinnia.
These limited edition shades most closely resemble our Luminous Shimmer Blush in Leigh with regards to the amount of shimmer, they are not quite as shimmery as Guava or Rosa. These blushes are not available for sale, they are exclusive to this gift with purchase. Lily is a soft peach with glints of silver and copper shimmer. Zinnia is an earthy red, sparked with bits of gold and pink. The shadow-sized jars and accompanying mini kabuki brush make these little gems perfect for travel or touch-up.
So if you want to get a little shopping done this weekend, be sure to visit our Collections page…we have eyeshadow sets, face sets and brush sets, and when you place your order totaling $45 (before shipping), you will receive a little something extra that you can slip into a stocking…even if it is your own!
Tips for how to have a safe Halloween are everywhere this time of year, but most of them overlook the importance of safe Halloween makeup. Many costumes require a bit of makeup, but the ingredients of those pre-packaged Halloween makeup kits that are in all of the stores right now are more frightening than the looks they create. So here is proof, you can create some great Halloween looks using only Alima Pure mineral makeup!
Brian is a super good sport, so he agreed to let us do his makeup as the David Bowie character, Ziggy Stardust. After all, even a fictional rock star from Mars can benefit from natural makeup! For his look, we started with Satin Matte Foundation in Cool 0, applied heavily with the #15 Flat Top Brush. Then we painted the zig-zag, using Luminous Shimmer Blush in Cerise, mixed with water. We outlined the left edges with Satin Matte Eyeliner in Black, again mixed with water, and then mixed Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Navy with water for the blue areas. When this was done, we went over the entire Cerise area with Satin Matte Blush in Antique Rose with a dry #3 Concealer Brush. We applied Cerise (dry) with a #37 Eye Blending Brush to Brian’s lids, and then touched up his foundation to maximize the contrast. Continue reading →
